From Soldier to Developer: How I Changed My Career Path

I have always been fascinated by technology and how it can improve our lives. That’s why I decided to join the defense forces as a engineer and mechanic, but also as a soldier. I wanted to learn new skills and serve my country at the same time.

For 13 years, I worked on various projects and missions, both at home and abroad. I enjoyed the challenge and the camaraderie, but I also felt that something was missing. I wanted to do more than just fix things or follow orders. I wanted to create something of my own, something that could make a difference in the world.

That’s when I decided to pursue a degree in programming. It was not easy to balance my studies with my work, but I was determined to succeed. I learned the basics of coding, web development, databases, and software engineering. I also took a short but intensive course at Switchfully, where I gained hands-on experience and guidance from mentors.

After graduating, I landed a job as a developer at CM, a health insurance company. There, I worked on various applications and systems that helped customers and employees access health care services and information. I enjoyed the work environment and the opportunity to learn from my colleagues, but I also wanted to explore other possibilities.

That’s why I made the leap to become a freelancer. As a freelancer, I can work on different projects for different clients, using different technologies and tools. I can also set my own schedule and rates, and choose the projects that interest me the most. I love the freedom and the variety that freelancing offers me.

I am proud of my journey from soldier to developer. It was not easy, but it was worth it. I learned a lot along the way, and I am still learning every day. I am grateful for all the opportunities and experiences that shaped me into who I am today. And I am excited for what the future holds for me.
